Are you fed up? Can’t take anymore? Need things to change?
Have you tried before and it didn’t work? You slipped back into old habits and old ways?
Are you tired of complaining?
When is enough, enough?
Dave Ramsey says that “you have to be sick and tired of being sick and tired – before you make a change.”
I agree. That’s what happened to me and everything changed because I made a change.
I’ve learned that you’ll stay stuck unless you start implementing new thoughts and behaviors into your life.
So how? How do you do that? How do you begin the process?
Here are three things to implement when you’ve gotten to the point that enough is enough.
DEFINE WHAT YOU WILL NOT TOLERATE
Write down the top three things you absolutely will not tolerate anymore. If you are often manipulated or feel guilty for standing up for yourself, you need to list the top three areas where you get stuck.
Writing down the three things will help you be on guard for when someone is stepping over your boundary. It will allow you to have a response ready so you’re not emotionally responding or shutting down because you don’t know what to say.
Example – for many years I would allow people to tell me who I was. It was usually very subtle but they were planting false identity seeds in me. It would be something like, “Since you’re a goody-good” or “You’re so much better than everyone else.” These types of comments were made because I wanted more for my life. Every time someone planted one of these seeds I would spend weeks trying to humble myself because I was coming off as I thought I was better than everyone else.
Eventually I started recognizing these seeds and could kick them out before they took root. If someone made a comment that I wasn’t going to receive, I could quickly counteract their comment by asking a question, “Why do you say that? … What is making you feel like I think I’m better than everyone else?”
The person would be stunned and confused. I would make them answer the question … which they usually did not have an answer for. The truth is – people will feel uncomfortable because you’re growing. Your growth exposes their weaknesses. Not because you’re trying to make them feel bad … it just happens. It’s their own insecurity but they will try to put it back on you and make you feel bad.
List your three things you will no longer tolerate, why you’re not going to tolerate them anymore, and what your response will be when those three things come up.
GET OUTSIDE OF YOUR CIRCLE
Even if you have a good group of girlfriends – get around women who you aspire to be like. We all know women who we look up to. Go where they are. Of course it going to feel uncomfortable because you’re not used to hanging in those environments. That’s normal. You’re not the only one experiencing that discomfort. Don’t let it stop you from going.
You know that saying, “Birds of a feather flock together”? You need to change it up. What are you good at? What talents do you have? Get around people that you can relate to and who can teach you more than what you already know.
Your old ways aren’t working so why not try something new?
TAKE YOUR THOUGHTS CAPTIVE
2 Corinthians 10:5 says: “We demolish arguments and every pretension that sets itself up against the knowledge of God, and we take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ.”
Proverbs 23:7 says: “For as he thinks in his heart, so is he.”
Had enough? Want to see changes? It starts with you and it starts with your thoughts.
How do you take thoughts captive and make them obedient to Christ? Well, you have to know what Jesus says. This means you should actively be spending time in the Word so you know how to compare and contrast truth and lies.
Many people have grown up under lies and therefore you may not even recognize how many thoughts are coming at you throughout the day that have no place hanging out in your mind.
Good in – good out. What are your eyes and ears taking in? You can’t fill your mind with filthy reality TV, toxic conversations, and other negative things and expect to have positive thoughts.
Change your thinking, change you life. Seriously. Super important.
If you have come to the point where you’re fed up and you’re ready to make changes so you can live the life you were created to live – then put these three tips into action and I guarantee you your life will change for the better. It will take time, but be consistent and resolve that you’re not turning back.
Throw off everything that hinders and run the race!
You are dearly loved!
